D'Albertis Castle in Genoa, a Museum of World Cultures

The castle is situated on Montegalletto hill, one of the highest points of the Castelletto district of Genoa, a few kilometres from the city's historic centre.
It was designed in the nineteenth century by captain Enrico Alberto D'Albertis, who gave it, together with his ethnographic and archaeological collections, to the city of Genoa when he died.
The museum takes visitors to faraway lands, to the very places to which the captain himself travelled, through collections of artefacts ranging from the pre-Columbian civilisations of Central and South America to Native North Americans and, finally, the civilisations of Oceania and Africa.
Particularly impressive are the African weapons, Chinese spears and European halberds, as well as the Mayan volcanic tuff fragments from the Copán acropolis in Honduras and the Mexican and Aztec ornaments.

The castle also houses the Museum of ethnic world music, a permanent exhibition of musical instruments, sounds, images, texts and videos from the five continents. Throughout the year, the museum puts on a programme of concerts, meetings with musicians, courses, workshops, shows, exhibitions and sounds from around the world.
It offers a variety of educational activities aimed at school children, families and people with disabilities. The D'Albertis Castle supports the “OK! Tourism for All” initiative and the venue and exhibition route are equipped with disabled access.
There are themed reading and workshop activities on offer for school groups.
One educational section is set up in the Nautical Room.
Booking is required for these activities.

How to get there: For those with disabilities or reduced mobility, the museum is accessible from the centre of Genoa using mobility scooters provided by the “terre di mare” www.terredimare.it
From Via Balbi (near the Piazza Principe railway station), there is an elevator (Castello D’Albertis-Montegalletti) which stops right outside the museum.
By train: Alight at Genova Piazza Principe Railway Station
By car: take the A12 motorway, exit at Genova Est, and follow signs for Genova Piazza Principe Railway Station or Castelletto.
